IT is finished!

I just got back to my house in Denver from Nederland where I terminated the walk a bit early. What an amazing few days of trekking, meeting people, depending on people, enjoying the outdoors, and wincing. Needless to say that with the wincing came many lessons on persevering.
61 miles (98 km)
113,765 steps!
20.5 hrs of walk time
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT WAS A PART OF THIS IN SOME WAY!!!
more details to follow!

IT starts in two days!

I have been getting my backpack ready for the trip and have had such varied responses about the walk. some really challenging questions have been asked of me and have felt like bagging the whole thing sometimes. There is more to it than walking, more than raising money for the kids, and much more than raising money for the trip, and i am learning that as I journey this through. It's about putting our time and money into caring for those that I believe God cares about.

Ultimately our goal in journeying to Karamoja is to see how we can bless the people there and be blessed by them. Not a bad deal. These words by Jesus come to mind that hit me between the eyes:

When the son of man comes in his glory...he will put the sheep on his right and goats on his left. The the King will say to those on his right, "Come...take your inheritance...because:
I was hungry and you gave me something to eat
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink;
I was a stranger and you invited me in;
I needed clothes and you clothed me;
I was sick and you looked after me;
I was in prison and you came to visit me;"
...whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.

Where and when the walk begins

I will be walking from Grand Lake to Denver, CO (total of 114 mi), if I can make it in four days, starting on the 25th of May and camping along the way!

How can you contribute? you can sponsor the walk with a flat donation of whatever amount you choose; you can walk with me and raise money as well; you can sponsor every mile that I walk (or if you are really into it, you can sponsor every step!). If I walk 15 miles per day for the four days, it will be 6o miles in four days, which may not get me to denver, but I will see how many miles I can do!
Come join me!

Strapping on the shoes for change

I have been thinking about ways to mobilize support for this brief trip and create some kind of ongoing network of people that may be interested in following what happens in this area of the world. SOOOOO......have decided to strap on some sandals and walk to 1) raise awareness of the situation in Karamoja, 2) help pay for our trip to visit in June 3) sponsor children to go to school. Any extra money from these two endeavors will be used to pay for the schooling of kids in the future.
